Jericó Day Trip: Mountains, Monoliths, and Heritage
Experience the ultimate mountain ride from our headquarters in La Candelaria to the heritage town of Jericó. This 9:00 AM departure is timed perfectly to get you out of the city and into the heart of the Andes, where technical curves and iconic Colombian landmarks await.
The Ride Itinerary
- 9:00 AM – Departure from La Candelaria: We gear up and roll out of the shop, heading south toward the Aburrá Valley exit. The urban landscape quickly transforms into the winding, well-paved roads of the Southwest.
Cerro Tusa
- 10:30 AM – Stop 1: Cerro Tusa : Our first major sight is the world’s tallest natural pyramid. This massive, triangular peak is a sacred indigenous landmark. We’ll stop at a roadside vantage point near Venecia where you can capture its perfect geometric silhouette towering over the coffee plantations.
El mirador de las olas
- 11:30 AM – Stop 2: El mirador de las olas: As we begin the real climb toward Jericó, the road becomes a technical masterpiece of switchbacks. We’ll pull over at the “Viewpoint of Waves,” so named because the surrounding mountain ridges roll away like green crests into the distance. It’s the ultimate spot for wide-angle drone shots or action cam footage.
- 12:30 PM – Arrival & Lunch in Jericó: We roll into the cobblestone streets of Jericó just in time for a traditional Paisa lunch. You can enjoy a hearty meal at the main plaza or check out local favorites like Isabel Art and Coffee or Tomatitos.
- 1:45 PM – Exploration & Coffee Culture: After lunch, we take time to explore. Jericó is the birthplace of the carriel (the iconic leather satchel of Antioquia). We’ll wander the vibrant streets and stop at Café El Saturia or Café Don Rafa for a premium, farm-to-cup experience that explains why this region produces some of the world’s best beans.
Cristo Redentor Jericó
- 2:45 PM – Stop 3: Cristo Redentor Jericó : We’ll take a short ride up to the hill of the Savior to see the massive statue of Jesus. From this height, you have a 360-degree view of the town’s red-tiled roofs nestled deep within the green canyon of the Andes.
- 3:30 PM – The Descent: With the afternoon sun casting long shadows over the mountains, we begin the exhilarating ride back down toward the Cauca River valley and return to the city.
